For centuries, evening primrose oil has been known to preserve the beauty and youthfulness of the skin. This yellow-flowered plant is native to North America and is an integral part of today's pharmacopoeia. All parts of the plant are used in phytotherapy: stem, flower, leaf and even roots.
Used by the Amerindians to treat skin conditions, evening primrose oil from the seeds contained in its fruits is a popular remedy. Rich in essential fatty acids, Evening Primrose is no longer used only by women, having recently proven its effectiveness on certain problems encountered by men. At present, what are the virtues and benefits of evening primrose oil for men?
Origin of the evening primrose
Evening primrose oil comes from the plant Oenothera biennis.. Long used by the Amerindians for its anti-inflammatory, soothing and respiratory properties. It was consumed as a winter provision and was used as an infusion to relieve gastric pain and cough, and as a poultice to heal wounds and sores. The plant appeared in Europe in the seventeenth century. Its name comes from the Greek words "oïnos" and "ther" which mean "wine" and "wild beast" because they were believed to have the power to tame wild beasts when their roots were dipped in wine.
The yellow flowers of this herbaceous plant do not open until nightfall, earning it the nickname "evening primrose" or "belle de nuit". The flowering takes place every summer, where fruits rich in small black seeds are born from which the famous evening primrose oil is extracted.
